Yep. Casa de Geib went from being made of awesomeness to made of cardboard. That's the real estate market for you right now! Just under a week into our first adventure in real estate, our perfect home was ripped out from underneath us. Have you seen all of the news about foreclosures and banks taking them off the market? It's been this huge deal because it has the potential to really hurt the real estate market. We were lucky because we hadn't invested non-returnable money into the home yet. Other people were out inspection fees and all sorts of other money, literally the day of closing, before having the house taken off the market. So while we certainly weren't feeling very fortunate, we really were. The bank is currently reviewing all of the paperwork on the foreclosure, making sure it was done legally and properly and we've been told they're keeping everything off of the market for at least 4 weeks for this process. At that point, which is now a little more than two weeks away, everything maybe cleared and our deal will be back on. Or the bank could drag out this process for months and months -- we have no way of knowing. In the meantime, we're free to move on and find another home, which is what we've been working on.
For the first week, we just weren't feeling the house-hunting. We felt like we'd been dumped or something and just couldn't move on yet. And there was literally nothing else on the market that we liked. Le sigh. But then Thursday arrived and with it, a couple of new prospects! Our realtor checked them out for us right away. We were able to rule one out just from the pictures but the other one seems like a great fit for us. We're not sure if our offer will even be considered (fierce competition for fewer properties) and even if the property will remain on the market with bank after bank pulling out their foreclosures. But we're proud of ourselves for being able to fall in love with another house. We're just going to be a lot more careful this time around and not get our hopes up until the keys are in our hands. Which house's keys? We don't know! But hopefully we'll have keys to a place we love in hand by the time Baby Boy Geib arrives. So that we don't have to, you know, live in a cardboard box.
Speaking of Baby Boy Geib, he's doing quite well! He's weighing around 2.5lbs and quite the active little bugger. I had my 28 week appointment today and both baby and I are great. And we've officially entered the third trimester! Already?! Which reminds me, I playfully asked Benjamin if he knew how many days were left in the official "baby in our arms" countdown. His guess? 130 days. The answer? 88 days. 88!!!! I think we both panicked a bit at that moment. The thought of a baby, the thought of a cross-global move and the haunting thought of a cardboard box.
Fingers crossed for us, people. Please! :)
