Flyover

Every year on July 21st, Guam celebrates its liberation day with a big parade down the main thoroughfare of the island. From wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guam):

As the largest island in Micronesia and the only US-held island in the region before World War II, Guam was captured by the Japanese on December 8, 1941, hours after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and was occupied for two and a half years.

During the occupation, the people of Guam suffered terrible atrocities including torture, beheadings, and rape, and were forced to adopt the Japanese culture. The Japanese occupation also imposed a new name, Ō-miya Jima or Great Shrine Island, on the island. Guam was subject to fierce fighting when US troops recaptured the island on July 21, 1944, a date commemorated every year as Liberation Day.

Benjamin's squadron helped kick off the parade with a flyover this year. We had so much fun waiting for him to fly over us! The big moment came and I managed to catch it on video:

Only on Guam, right? Or OOG as we say here. This guy is practically famous out here because he always walks his caribou with his dogs on its back. I'm not making this stuff up, people.

I have no words for this.

Buckling up in general and putting your babies/kids in carseats/seatbelts are very new concepts here. And as Caitlyn pointed out, how odd that we have an Office of Highway Safety given that.... we have NO highways. Oh Guam! This is your tax dollar hard at work, mainlanders...
